tour returns to charlotte for first time since kemper open left. event will be played on same course as kemper but this revamped layout has changed much since then. thois course was built when i was kid 60<s and palmer made some changes then fazio came in in late 90,s for a <do over> to toughen up the somewhat benign layout.
far from benign now . i have played this course many times over the years and its a tough one now.
holes have been rehaped to add doglegs and greens reworked to add in some cases severe slope. plus there are plenty of trees and the rough will be a factor this week
went out yesterday in the rain and talked to a couple of guys that are members and they were telling me that the tour has actually slowed the greens down for the event this week
rain and overcast the forecast here for rest of week and this will add even more to the 7300 yards.
a couple of very long par 4 and one hell of a long par 3.
i expect a power player will have a good week and the overall driving stat will be one i will look hard at

back when matches are up

howell -5 over riley 1/2 unit

riley is death with the putter
but with the rain and length of course i really like the advantage howell has driving the ball
especially the trajectory howell hits it
it raind like monsoon season here today and course is <soaked>

Your opinion requested.

I have Annika at +200 vs. C. Pavin. What do you think are my chances? Could probably dump some if I wanted.

Thanks!

here is something i wrote a while back
think what is being overlooked is not only the driving distance but also the club she will have to use from say 150 yards
even the players you mentioned which are around 10 yards longer off the tee than her will be hitting an 8 iron or at most a 7 from 150. she in turn will have to hit a 6 in most cases
all i am saying its a heck of alot easier to hit it close with a shoret club and this added length withj the irons that the men enjoy will even be compounded the longer the distance from the hole.
there is just not enough clubhead speed generated by her swing to hit an 8 iron 150 or a 4 iron 200.

the par 3 will be especially tough on her with them measuring
246,192, 178, 188

which means a driver, and 3 long irons where the men will be hitting a long iron and 3 middle irons

take a look at some of the par 4 at colonial and subtact her average drive and look at the didtance she has left
for example

476 yard minus 265 leaves 211
470 yard leaves 205
427yards leaves 162
433 yards leaves 168
457 yards leaves 192
430 leaves leaves 165
427 yards leaves 162

that is some lond yardage into the greens and as you said she has a great short game but having to use it like she will have to will put alot of pressure on it

imo i just dont see where she will have many chances to make birdies and even if she plays well and makes alot of pars , the cut will be tough.
historically 1-3 over par makes it here and that will be very tough .
i see about 148 as her two round total

people keep talking about this course being shorter
which is true for a pga tournament..
but if you look at the lpga tournaments, the courses they play are in the 6100 to 6400 yard range

for example the womens open was played at colonial in 1991 at a yardage of 6340 yards and a par of 71
and won with a score of 283 which is three over the par the men play the course to.
the men play the course at 7080 yards and a par of 70

600 yards is one heck of alot

she will , imo, have a very tough time making cut

pavin has a great record here 2 wins and 9 top 10s in last 19 years
i like pavin

i also remember how anika choked like a dog in the big tv match with tiger and carrie webb a couple years ago
i think she misses cut

Sea - THANK YOU SIR!! I don't always post here to tell you that but it is appreciated. I got down on all of them except Perry as I couldn't get a number even close to what you had so thought the value might be gone on it. Anyway was a nice little bonus for me as I hit the others and I don't bet golf other than what I get from you. Between you and the <proven winner> who hits 68% on his bad years and 71% on average I am doing pretty good these days.

thanks guys
pat i will take you up on that
my dads sisters are in st augustine and orlando
and we come down occasionally

i saw the perry bet move all the way to 50 in some places

i watched mcarron play thurs and friday
he actually hit the ball well on thurs but didnt make anything
on friday he looked like a different player
he started driving the ball bad and it got worse from there
it looks like he has no faith in his driver at all

btw have been following your bases across the street,, thanks
